Fellowships
The Emory Policy Institute on Countering Antisemitism (EPICA) is pleased to invite rising junior and senior Emory undergraduates to apply for its first-ever cohort of Washington Fellows for Summer 2027.
Guided by Presidential Distinguished Professor and former U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt, EPICA prepares students to engage thoughtfully with issues at the intersection of countering antisemitism and the spheres of public policy, diplomacy, democracy, and global affairs.
As a Fellow, you will spend eight weeks in Washington, D.C., participating in a fulltime internship with a relevant office while engaging in a cohort-based professional development experience designed exclusively for EPICA Fellows.
Throughout the summer, students will participate in seminars, networking opportunities, policy discussions, site visits, and special events with scholars, diplomats, policymakers, and practitioners. In addition to the summer fellowship, students will have opportunities to engage with EPICA throughout the academic year through professional development programming, guest speakers, networking opportunities, and other fellowship activities designed to extend learning beyond the summer experience.
As a member of the inaugural cohort, you will establish the traditions, expectations, and legacy of a fellowship that will serve future generations of Emory students.
What Fellows Will Do
The EPICA Washington Policy Fellowship combines academic learning, professional development and experience, and policy engagement through a cohort-based internship experience in Washington, D.C.
Selected Fellows will:
- Complete an eight-week fulltime internship with an EPICA partner organization.
- Live in provided housing on Georgia Washington University’s campus.
- Participate in weekly cohort seminars and professional development programming facilitated by both EPICA and the Pathways Center’s D.C. Scholars program.
- Engage with diplomats, policymakers, researchers, journalists, and nonprofit leaders.
- Visit government agencies, embassies, research organizations, and other institutions.
- Complete a research or policy project assigned through EPICA to be presented at EPICA’s Research Symposium in Fall 2027.
- Represent Emory University and EPICA professionally throughout the fellowship
Pre-Fellowship Washington Policy Immersion
Before beginning the summer fellowship, all selected students are required to participate in a fully funded three-day Washington Policy Immersion organized by EPICA during Emory’s Spring Break in March. This experience introduces Fellows to Washington’s policy community through meetings with diplomats, researchers, policymakers, and other leaders whose work reflects EPICA’s mission.
The immersion also prepares students for their summer placements and provides an opportunity for the cohort to begin building relationships before the fellowship officially begins.
Please note: The Washington Policy Immersion is organized by EPICA and is separate from the Pathways Center. Questions regarding this experience should be directed to the Director of Research and Student Engagement.
Eligibility & Application
Applicants must:
- Be currently enrolled as a rising junior or senior at Emory University
- Be available to participate in all required program activities
- Commit to the required Spring Break Washington Policy Immersion
- Commit to residing in Washington, D.C., for the full eight-week fellowship
- Be in good academic standing
